Dual-certified Part 90 and Part 95 Radios

A perennial source of Internet arguments is about radios for use in GMRS.

§95.1761 requires that radios used on GMRS frequencies be type-accepted / certified for such.

  • The FCC seems broadly aware and unbothered by the use of Part 90 radios which are not Part 95 approved provided they aren't causing other problems. This doesn't make it legal per se, but
  • There do exist commercial Part 90 radios which are also certified under Part 95/95A/95E. That is what this page seeks to list.

As an aside, the rules state that "No GMRS transmitter will be certified for use in the GMRS if it is equipped with the capabilities to operate in services that do not require equipment certification, such as the Amateur Radio Service," which is why only the 450+ MHz radios seem to be included.
